Southport is well known as a coastal community with a wide array of holiday traditions, and the Light Up the Night Christmas Fire Engine Parade is easily a local favorite, with plenty of cheer to go around. Hosted by the more than 100-year-old Southport Fire Department, and featuring floats, trucks, and colorful displays of all varieties, this crowd pleasing event is a great way to get in the holiday spirit with a little coastal style.
The annual parade route begins at the Waterfront Park on Howe Street, and travels north where it eventually winds up at the historic Southport Fire Station. The public is invited to line Howe Street, which is Southport’s famous “main drag,” to cheer on the participants and watch as the colorful floats and trucks cruise by. Local businesses participate with coastal or holiday themed displays of all varieties, and music and marching bands will also be on site to set a merry tone. After the parade, the fun continues at the Southport Fire Department Station, with holiday refreshments and a special appearance by Santa Claus himself. A joyful celebration throughout, the annual Light Up the Night Christmas Fire Engine Parade is a great way to ring in the holiday with tons of community spirit to go around.
