Rental home booking tips and tricks:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • To find the largest rental home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Cape Fear area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • To start, have your group agree to trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. 15 Brown Pelican Oceanfront Second Row - Major addition underway! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If not, email the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a certain Cape Fear area beach you simply love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
