Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Oak Island rental experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • Booking your Cape Fear area vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the Cape Fear area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Selecting and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • First, have your family agree to dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. 4BR\/3.5BA - 2nd Row, Pool with Heating & Cooling, Ocean Views, Sleeps11 has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. Otherwise, call the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
