Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many property management companies supply Cape Fear area area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the best rental home in the Cape Fear area area:

  • Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Beauiful-5BR\/3BA Ocean View-2nd Row Home -Hot Tub-Sleeps 12 has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a particular Cape Fear area attraction you crave, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
