About this Property

  • Sleeps 8
  • 3 Bedrooms
  • 2 Bathrooms
  • Private vacation home

Welcome to Captain Hank's (formerly Captain P's)!

This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom comfortable canal home can sleep 8 people, making it a ideal spot for your next family vacation. The cavernous layout offers a sizable kitchen and living space with expansive vistas of the canal. The home features a humongous back porch, deck, gazebo, and floating dock.

The kitchen is very well-equipped with just about everything that you'll need to prepare big family dinners, or fast lunches during a break in the day. You'll find plenty of cooking equipment, toaster/convection oven, electric griddle, all for your use during your stay. Off the kitchen is a full-sized washer and dryer, plus additional cabinets to store snacks (up high and out of sight of the kids!).

The main bedroom offers a king bed, dresser and nightstand with drawers for clothing storage, and an attached bathroom with shower and single vanity. (Please note we keep the closet locked for owner's storage.) The second bedroom has a queen bed, closet, and dresser. The third bedroom (we've dubbed it the bunk home!) offers a double bed plus a twin-over-twin bunk bed, closet, and dresser supplied with games, toys and art supplies. A second bathroom at the end of the hall has a single vanity and shower/tub combo. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan and modest TV. The beds each have pillows and quilts and additional blankets, but you'll need to bring your own sheets, pillowcases, and bathroom linens.

In the living room is a big sectional ideal for family movie nighttime, and a well-adored leather reclining chair that is a favorite for afternoon naps. We have a huge TV with Roku device (bring your own logins!), and antique record player with a few vinyl records to choose from.

Downstairs is our unfinished game room with another TV, modest couch, chairs, pool table (disclaimer: it's survived a few floods). The game room does not have heat and cannot be accessed from the main living space, but it does have a wall AC unit and dehumidifier. During the summer it tends to get musty, but it's a great space for kids to play while the grown ups have happy hour on the deck. The outdoor shower will make cleaning up after the beach a breeze, and the hammock makes a great place to relax after a day in the sun.

Located the 5th home from Ocean Blvd, the home has Beach Access near the end of the adjacent street, a very short walk away. A five min. walk in the other direction you'll find another beach access, the Holden Beach General Store (ideal for odds and ends you'll need through the week), a modest local surf-shop, and ice cream shop!

Located centrally on the island (less than 2 miles from the bridge), our home is in one of the few canal neighborhoods of Holden Beach. Bring your boat for the week and drop it in the water at the complimentary boat ramp under the Holden Beach bridge, or bring your kayak, paddle boards, or jet skis. Tie up on the floating dock, where kids and adults alike appreciate the fun of fishing and crabbing from the dock. If you're a seafarer, you'll savor quick access to the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Atlantic Ocean is just a 10-15 min. boat ride away through the inlets at each end of the island.

The home receives evening shade on the back porch, which is ideal for dinner and a calming view of the canal. Stroll to the beach in just five mins. to watch the sunrise and sunset. There aren't many places in North Carolina where you can see the sunrise and the sunset from the beach - but Holden Beach is one of them!

The home also features an enclosed garage to securely store jet skis, beach gear, your bicycles, and/or modest car.

We purchased this home in 2021, did some redecorating, and through the process we have fallen in appreciate with Holden Beach. We're happy to answer any questions you have about the home or the area, so please feel complimentary to reach out! Looking forward to hosting you soon!

Strategies to get the best Cape Fear area rental home experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • In the Cape Fear area area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Summer time is high season in the Cape Fear area area. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Cape Fear area vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and choose the perfectvacation home:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Charming Canal Home, 2 Blocks from Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
  • If there's an individual Cape Fear area destination you crave, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
