Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Cape Fear area area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses.   • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective.
