Strategies to get the best Cape Fear area vacation home experience:

Get the best value:

  • To book the largest rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Cape Fear area attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your search:

  • Choose vacation dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly home 1 block from the beach with great deck, patio & central AC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Cape Fear area destination you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
