Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Cape Fear area area. To get the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Make a plan and pick your prefect Cape Fear area rental:

  • Start by having your group commit to date ranges and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Fitz Us Fine: Spacious, Adorable Beach Home in Family-friendly Neighborhood has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a certain Cape Fear area beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
