Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:

When to go & When to reserve a Wilmington rental home:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Cape Fear area area. Book your Cape Fear area rental in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Make a plan and pick yourrental:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Spacious get away with plenty of charm has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your family.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
  • Upon check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
