Our top Cape Fear area vacation rental tips:

How to get the best value:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by selecting a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. \"Lifesaver\" is a 2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Oceanfront Home! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's an individual Cape Fear area beach you are enamored with, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Advice for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
