Our top Cape Fear area rental home tips:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Summer time is high season in the Cape Fear area area. To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning, picking, and booking the perfectrental home:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Lost Shaker of Salt - heated private pool, across from the ocean has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
