How to book the best Oak Island rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Make a plan and choose the perfect Cape Fear area rental:

  • Choose your vacation week and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Ocean Front WiFi, Pet Friendly, HDTV, Balcony Overlooking Ocean, Renovated! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
