Tips to get the optimal Cape Fear area vacation home experience:

When to visit Oak Island & When to reserve a Cape Fear area rental home:

  • To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose your vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Dreamsicle: Oceanfront beach house with hardwood floors and plenty of parking has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
