Rental home tips:

When to go & When to book:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the most suitable rental within budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Cape Fear area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Cape Fear area area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Time Stands Still: 4 Bed\/3 Bath Home with Private Fenced In Pool Only One Block has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your family.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
