Our top Oak Island vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to book a Cape Fear area rental home & When to go:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in the Cape Fear area area. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Cape Fear area area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the best Cape Fear area rental home:

  • Start by having your family select dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Saltwater Pool Coming March 1st, 2025, Wonderful Island Retreat with 6 Seater golf cart has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
