Tips for getting the perfect Oak Island rental experience:
When to reserve a Cape Fear area rental home & When to go:
- In the Cape Fear area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Cape Fear area area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the perfect rental home in the Cape Fear area area:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Wonderful Island Home In the Peaceful Wooded Section Only Mins to the Beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before booking your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a particular Cape Fear area destination you are crazy about, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Have a great stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
