Tips and Tricks to get the best Cape Fear area vacation rental experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • To find the best value, try changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your group commit to date ranges and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Island Park Home on the water! Short walk to beach. Sleeps 9 has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If there's a particular Cape Fear area beach you love, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
