Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation rental experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting the best rental in the Cape Fear area area:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. CB House (Bike Trail, Brewery, Boardwalk, Park) has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
