How to find the best vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • To find the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

How to choose the best vacation home in Oak Island:

  • To start, have your family select date ranges and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Chic oceanfront suite for cozy beach getaway has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's an individual Cape Fear area attraction you long to visit, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your invoice.

More considerations:

  • Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
