Tricks and tips to get the optimal Cape Fear area vacation home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in Oak Island. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Dog Friendly, only a 10 Min Walk To Beach, Fire Pit, Mins from Parks and Restaurants has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
