Vacation rental tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is high season in Carolina Beach. Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • First and foremost, have your family agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Walk to Beach, Full Kitchen, Cozy Surf Studio has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .

During your stay:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
