Finding the best vacation rental experience:

Finding the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Cape Fear area area. Book your Cape Fear area rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Ivy Cottage: Dog-Friendly, Oceanfront Cottage with Fenced Yard has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. Otherwise, email the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your contract.

Know before you go:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
