How to get the best Oak Island vacation rental experience:
Find your best deal:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Cape Fear area area. To find the largest rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Cape Fear area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain deals for local tours and attractions.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental in Oak Island:
- Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Rare Find! 14 bed 8 bath Sleeps 26. Private. Ocean Views. Pool Hot Tub. Elevator has 8 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a certain Cape Fear area attraction you are crazy about, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
