Getting the best Cape Fear area vacation property experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking your Cape Fear area vacation home in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Cape Fear area area travel guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to pick the best rental home in Wilmington:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Unique Houseboat in Port City Marina Wilmington, NC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

During your stay:

  • Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your visit, record any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
