Vacation rental tips:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your Cape Fear area vacation in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies supply Cape Fear area area travel guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Finding the perfect rental home:

  • Start by having your family agree to trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Oceanfront - 9 Bedrooms with private pool has 9 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is right for your trip.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
