Strategies to get the perfect rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Cape Fear area area travel guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting and booking yourrental home:
- To start, have your family select dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Oceanfront 6 BR 6 BA home with private pool and putting green on the ocean. has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If not, contact the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a particular Cape Fear area destination you are crazy about, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many concerns.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
