Tips to get the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Summertime is high season in Bald Head Island. To find the best value, try changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies supply Cape Fear area area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the best rental:

  • Select dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. EXCEPTIONAL HOME, WALK TO: E BEACH, MIKE'S BITES, SHOAL'S, COMMON & CONSERVANCY has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
