Our top Rental booking tips:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Cape Fear area area. Book your Cape Fear area vacation in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your Search:
- Select dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanview unit with a pool, just steps from the beach! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. Otherwise, email the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Tips for a fantastic stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
