Tips and Tricks for getting the best Cape Fear area vacation property experience:

Getting the best value:

  • Summertime is high season in Ocean Isle Beach. To find the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Cape Fear area restaurants and activities.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. OIB Canal Home GREAT outdoor spaces(w screen porch), updated LARGE kitchen, DOCK has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
