Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Get the best rental home value:
- Summer time is high season in Southport. Reserve your vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Rivers Edge 223 at The River Hotel of Southport has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If not, email the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Cape Fear area attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas during arrival. text the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
