Our top Oak Island vacation rental tips:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • First, have your group choose a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Rum&Redfish Retreat! Perfect for your family & pet friendly! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
