Cape Fear area vacation rental tips:

Cost saving strategies:

  • In the Cape Fear area area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Oak Island. Book your rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting and booking the best Cape Fear area rental:

  • Start by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Salt & Light: Spacious, Custom-built, Oceanfront Home Close to Splash Pad, Park has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • If there's a particular Cape Fear area attraction you long to visit, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
