When to book a Cape Fear area rental & When to go:

• In the Cape Fear area area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
• To find the largest rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Cape Fear area attractions.
• Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
• Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
• Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

• If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

• Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
• Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
• During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
• Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
• Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
• Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
• Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
• Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
