Strategies to get the best Cape Fear area rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Reserve your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sis’s Cottage - Southport, NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your family.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
