Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to book:

  • Summer time is high season in Oak Island. Reserve your Cape Fear area vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Cape Fear area area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Cape Fear area area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the perfect rental:

  • Select vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. THE SHOAL SHACK - Oak Island, NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
