Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in the Cape Fear area area. To find the best rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Cape Fear area area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Beach cottage located on a natural canal- 4 bedroom has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before booking the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
