Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer months are high season in Carolina Beach. Reserve your rental in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to select the best vacation rental:

  • To start, have your group select trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. spacious 2 BR\/BA cottage (no stairs) sleeps 5 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If there's a specific Cape Fear area destination you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
