Tricks and tips for getting the best Cape Fear area vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Cape Fear area area visitor guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the perfect rental home:

  • First and foremost, have your group decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront house with fireplace, central AC, W\/D & outdoor shower - dog-friendly has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your family.
  • If there's an individual Cape Fear area beach you are crazy about, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or could be applied to your contract.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
