Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Cape Fear area rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- In the Cape Fear area area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- To book the largest vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking your prefectrental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Happier Than a Byrd with a French Fry: West Beach Home with Ocean Views and Easy has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a particular Cape Fear area destination you crave, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many issues.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
