Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Cape Fear area restaurants and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Nikki’s Quiet Little Island Getaway has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
