Rental property booking tips:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Summer is high season in the Cape Fear area area. Booking your Cape Fear area vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Cape Fear area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • To start, have your family commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Pet friendly, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 piers, boat ramp, large porch, yard, waterway has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
  • If there's an individual Cape Fear area attraction you simply love, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
