Tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Cape Fear area area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Make a plan and pick a perfectvacation home:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Paws Awhile: Slow down, pause awhile at Paws Awhile! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

Considerations for your stay:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the host immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
