Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to book a Cape Fear area rental & When to go:

  • The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, selecting, and booking yourrental home:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Weekly Rental With 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths and a Boat Dock. Short Walk to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain Cape Fear area attraction you are enamored with, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
