Strategies to get the best Oak Island vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Cape Fear area area. To book the best rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Cape Fear area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Cape Fear area area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and choosing the right Cape Fear area vacation home:

  • Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Salt Life - ocean front! Newly renovated! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
