Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Find your best deal:

  • To get the most suitable rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies supply Cape Fear area area travel guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose and book yourvacation home:

  • Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. The Sea Palm, A Coastal Cottage Steps From The Beach!!! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Cape Fear area rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges applied to your invoice.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
