Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Cape Fear area vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Carolina Beach. To get the best value, shift your family's Cape Fear area vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Cape Fear area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Cape Fear area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First, have your family agree to trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Here Comes The Sun #3 & #4
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, email the host before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
